Clear About Carbon
Supporting Cornwall's Transition to a Low Carbon Economy

Clear About Carbon case studies

Clear About Carbon is working closely with a number of Cornish SMEs and organisations to determine what works, and what doesn’t, when it comes to communicating with staff about climate change and the business opportunities that a low-carbon economy could offer.

Here's what they say about working with us.

  • NHS Peninsula Purchasing and Supply Alliance

Lynne Blandford, Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust
'Our senior management recognise the changing policy arena around low- carbon issues and see the benefits of showing leadership in this area. Cornwall Development Company has delivered a number of workshops to staff at NHS Peninsula Purchasing and Supply Alliance (PPSA) and their member trusts.

The workshops took a two-day structure, the first focusing on Carbon Literacy, the second run in conjunction with the Department of Health, focusing on their initiative Procuring for Carbon Reduction (P4CR). These workshops were very well received and have led to a group partaking in a leadership and procurement management skills action learning set for the low carbon economy programme, lead by the University of Exeter Business School.

The project team are also working with PPSA to try and track carbon through the procurement process using a benefits tracker tool which is currently undergoing its first round of testing.'

  • Cornwall Council

Aisha Chavda, Corporate Procurement and Commissioning Unit
'The Clear About Carbon project is working closely with Cornwall Council’s Corporate Procurement and Commissioning Unit to embed Sustainability and Carbon Literacy into the procurement process. The project has so far delivered Carbon Literacy training to procurement and contract management staff throughout Cornwall Council and has fed into recent developments in the Council’s Corporate Sustainable Procurement Policy.

The Council has an ambition to achieve level 3 on the Sustainable Procurement Taskforce Framework by the end of Dec 2011, or sooner if possible. The next major step is for the Clear About Carbon project to start engaging with the Council’s main suppliers to begin and continue driving carbon reductions. The project team would like to thank Cornwall Council Procurement and Commissioning Unit on engaging with their activities, especially in a time of extreme pressure on the public sector.

Cornwall Council Corporate Procurement and Commissioning Unit would like to say a big thank you to Clear about Carbon Project Team for their contribution and engagement in the Unit’s procurement activities. This has been extremely valuable for the Unit to promote and embed sustainable procurement when procuring goods and services.'
